Why can't changes be made in Employees while a payroll batch is entered but not processes.
Payroll -Please allow an Employee's file to be edited at any time. If a mistake is found after entering all employees' hours, and it is not something that can be edited in the payroll entry window, then the system will NOT let you edit the employee while they are in an active batch. It makes you clear the whole batch and fix your person, then re-enter the payroll. This takes up a lot of extra time. Employee changes were easy in the CM Pro version and they could be done at any time.
Part of the problem with Employee Maintenance and Prepare Payroll is that any changes to the employee records will cause changes to the check the next time they are loaded into the prepare payroll screen. The reason that the employee record is locked when a check is put into a batch is because, unlike PRO, Denali recalculates wages and taxes every time a check is loaded into the Prepare Payroll screen or changed in any way. In PRO, you can control when and how wages and taxes are calculated.

Changing employee information "on the fly" is so much more beneficial and efficient than the current Denali option. (On-the-fly was available in CMSPro.) Even though one can delete an employee from the grid, make changes in their file, then add them back to the Prepare Payroll grid, it places that employee at the bottom of the grid. When processing a large payroll (we typically have 150+) that employee is now out of order. Unless we make a physical note on the edit report, it is difficult and time consuming to find that employee's information on that payroll in the future.
